Mike Sormanti is an aspiring play-by-play sports broadcaster and sports anchor, currently studying sports media & communications with a minor in journalism at the University of Rhode Island. In nearly 2 years at URI, he has interned with ESPN+ as a sports announcer, calling over 15 televised games across a variety of sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and men’s and women’s soccer. In May 2025, during his first year at URI, he made his ESPN+ debut, calling URI baseball vs Saint Louis.

In addition to his TV broadcasts, Mike has called numerous games on URI’s student-run radio station, WRIU 90.3FM, including Rhode Island’s victory over No. 18 Saint Louis in men’s basketball just this past year.

While broadcasting remains his primary focus, Mike is also a contributing writer for URI’s school newspaper, The Good Five Cent Cigar. Since his first semester on campus, he’s written more than 30 articles, covering a wide range of sports including baseball, track & field, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse, cross country, swimming, frisbee, sailing, equestrian, along with profile features and opinion pieces.

Outside of URI, Mike works as a play-by-play broadcaster for Sportz Nation (formerly Fans Only Sportz Network), where he has called over 70 games of sports on different levels, including junior hockey league EHL, college sports, college club sports, preparatory sports, and high school sports consisting of basketball, football, hockey, and soccer.

His journey in sports media began in high school, where he served as an all-around producer for his school’s media department. During Mike’s senior year, he co-hosted the Falcon Sports Network Podcast, anchored West Watch News, and edited and produced a variety of video content for the CHSW Media channel.
